Top ranked Amherst emerged Saturday night with their second straight NCAA Division III National Championship. The Lady Jeffs dominated Norwich for most of the game winning 7-2 and becoming the fourth team in Division III to win back to back championships. Caroline Hu was strong once more and got support from six different scorers in picking up the victory. Sophomore Ellen Swiontkowski added four assists in the game as Randi Zukas and Julia Koch each added two of their own. All told 12 of the 18 skaters in the Amherst lineup walked away with one or more points in the game. The lone bright spot for the Cadets came in the first half of the third period when Brittany Casey and Katie Leupp each took feeds from Sophie Leclerc to cut the deficit to 5-2. However Amherst would continue to wear on Norwich goaltender Cindy Fortin as the Lady Jeffs added two more goals to round out their victory. Photos by Brian Fowler
