The More things change the more they stay the same. With all the parity that came out this year in the end it was a repeat for the WCHA in the NCAA Title Game. Minnesota-Duluth battled Cornell for a little less than two full games before Jessica Wong redirected a shot from the point past Amanda Mazzotta who was marvelous once again in net for Cornell.
In the Longest NCAA Championship Game ever it was Cornell who struck first on the Power Play in the second period as Lauriane Rougeau blasted a shot from the point past Jennifer Harss for the Periods only goal. 18 seconds into the third period Emmanuelle Blais got UMD back in the hunt with a Power Play goal of her own as she meticulously let a slapper go in motion had it deflected by the Cornell Defense and managed to reload for the top shelf score. The Bulldogs would build on the 1-0 lead when Laura Danforth went to the box for Cornell on a contact to the head penalty. Less than a minute into the power play Freshman Audrey Cournoyer setup captain Saara Tuominen who sailed a pass on Jaime Rasmussen's tape for the go-ahead goal. The Big Red would rally the troops a minute and 48 seconds later as Melanie Jue tied the game as the Big Red showed they would not go down without a fight while setting the stage for Overtime and the eventual winner nearly three periods later.
