Olympic Coverage, Finland defeats Russia 5-1

Minnesota goaltender Noora Raty lived up to her billing following an early goal against as her native Finland downed Russia 5-1 tonight at the UBC Thunderbird Arena. Minnesota State Maverick Nina Tikkinen had two goals as Marjo Voutilainen, Venla Hovi, and Saija Sirvio each added a goal of their own.

Russia struggled on offense after a solid opening period where they controlled play almost from the outset. A Finland 5 on 3 advantage turned the tide for the Fins for good as Russia was never able to beat Raty again in the game.

Both teams return to action Tuesday as Russia faces off with the United States while Finland takes on its former coach and Team China.
