North Dakota used a goals late in the first two periods to upend the defending National Champs on opening night in Madison. The Fighting Sioux who made some noise before fading away last season used a solid performance in goal by Jorid Dagfinrud to hand Bucky its first loss of the season.
Meanwhile in Minnesota the Gophers and Huskies needed third period goals to avoid non conference upsets. The UMD Bulldogs sent their fans home happy with a solid yet sloppy 5-2 win and Minnesota State battled the Minnesota Whitecaps to a 2-2 tie.
Two WCHA teams took to the road this week as Bemidji State added a late third period goal to spoil the shutout at Mercyhurst, and Ohio State tied the BU Terriers 1-1.
