BTD - WCHA Player of the Year
Meghan Duggan, SR, Wisconsin
Returning to Madison after a season with the United States Olympic team Meghan Duggan quickly went to work in leading her team both as captain and as the Badgers on ice points leader. What sets Duggan apart as the WCHA Player of the Year is her ability to take control in a tight game. Whether its her vision in feeding a teammate with a rocketing pass to tie the game, or scoring the go ahead goal cementing another badger victory. In her four plus years in Madison she has nearly done it all and bested every type of player thrown in her wake.
BTD - WCHA Defensive Player of the Year
Jocelyn Larocque, SR, Minnesota-Duluth
Coming of a junior campaign that saw her year start with Team Canada and finish with UMD. Jocelyn Larocque made the most of her Olympic snub last season and has built herself into one of the most menacing blueliners in the WCHA. On a team that has so many scoring weapons Larocque is the stalwart that feeds that offensive from behind the play. Nearly every time there is a turnover in the UMD zone, Larocque is to credit. Anytime the Bulldogs need someone to step up and lead Larocque is always there and ready to come through in a big way.
BTD - WCHA Rookie of the Year
Alex Rigsby, FR, Wisconsin
Being labeled as the next Jessie Vetter may phase some rookies, but nothing seems to deter Alex Rigsby. Her six shutouts and .920 win percentage is tops amongst her fellow freshman net minders. Allowing three or more goals on just three occasions this year Rigsby has shown how solid of a netminder she can be. While still making a "freshman mistake" on occasion, Rigsby is still considered by many to not only be the best rookie in the league but one of the top goaltenders in the game today.
BTD - WCHA Goalie of the Year
Noora Räty, SO, Minnesota
Following up on a season that saw her bring a bronze medal back to the Twin Cities Noora Räty is having another monster year for the Golden Gophers. The WCHA leader in save percentage (.943), Räty is seconded only by Kim Martin in Goals Against Average and Alex Rigsby in win percentage. On a team with so many young forwards Noora is the rock in net that always seems to keep her cool when the going gets tough. Also a candidate for National Player of the Year Räty is sure to be one of they leagues most menacing forces for years to come.
BTD - WCHA Coach of the Year
Mark Johnson, Wisconsin
Coming off an Olympic Silver Medal as the Head Coach of Team USA, Mark Johnson picked up right where he left off in Madison leading the Badgers to another 30 win season and a WCHA regular season championship. For a team that struggled to overcome so many hurdles a year ago, Johnson has the Badgers in strong contention for another National title. Aside from the two Olympians that returned to roster, Johnson's bunch is still mostly raw talent. With six freshman including starting netminder Alex Rigsby and eight sophomores looking to overcome a rude awakening to the college scene last year, Johnson had his work cut out for him. Under his tutelage however the Badgers have once again become a cohesive scoring unit that has rarely disappointed and up to this point lived up to nearly all of its expectations.
