MC Preview
Following up on a November sixth overtime loss in Niagara Falls the number three ranked Mercyhurst Lakers will hope that home ice makes a difference as the Purple Eagles will look to play spoiler to the Lakers three game winning streak and move back into the win column after a pair of 6-0 losses in Ithaca last weekend. In the earlier meeting the Lakers used their power play to gain an early edge but fell behind late in the first period on a pair of goals in a span of one minute 26 seconds. The Niagara Power Play proved to be the difference late in the game however as the Purple Eagles tied the game late and won in overtime while the Lakers had a player in the penalty box which they cant allow to happen this weekend if they hope to keep their home undefeated streak in tact.
Wayne State @ Syracuse
FRI, 7:00 PM ~ SAT, 2:00 PM
WSU Preview
SU Preview
After back to back shutouts against Minnesota State last weekend the warriors of Wayne head to New York for a series that will pose a bit more of a challenge for Jim Fetter's troops. The Orange who boast a 6-7-2 record overall will look to their offensive leaders Isabel Menard and Julie Rising in the hopes of bettering their 2-5-2 home record. The Warriors can also put up points from a variety of players which means in this series, goaltending is key and in that regard it appears that the Warriors have a slight advantage over their less experienced but equally as impressive foe.
WCHA Series'
Minnesota @ Bemidji State
FRI, 2:07 PM ~ SAT, 2:07 PM
UMN Preview
BSU Preview
The Minnesota Golden Gophers make their first trip to the new Sanford Center on the heels of a sweep over Harvard ready to see if the new rink touch for Bemidji rubs off once more. The Beavers while in constant struggle mode on the road have split series' with nationally ranked Mercyhurst, Minnesota-Duluth, and North Dakota thus far in 2010. The Gophers who have had ups and downs of their own struggling at times to keep pace against ranked conference foes and easily blowing away their less skilled WCHA foes and all of their non-conference opposition. This next chapter of Zuzana against Noora will once again be a series to watch as it will take skilled plays to convert scoring chances if they want to win.
Minnesota Duluth @ St. Cloud State
FRI, 7:07 PM ~ SAT, 7:07 PM
UMD Preview
SCSU Preview
On the heels of a difficult test in Madison the Bulldogs of UMD stay on the road facing off with a SCSU team that is looking for wins any way they can get them. The decidedly advantaged UMD lineup will pose all sorts of challenges for the still win-less Huskies. Unfortunately for Ashley Nixon and the St. Cloud lineup this reporter does not see this series looking like anything other than a chance for the young players to see quality ice time against a nationally ranked rival.
Wisconsin @ North Dakota
SAT, 2:07 PM ~ SUN, 2:07 PM
UW Preview
UND Preview
Following a weekend of rest and reflection on the season thus far, Brian Idalski hoes that his team has recovered from the tryptophan ingestion last weekend and allowed the Sioux to regroup for the assault they will see against top ranked Wisconsin. The Badgers meanwhile look to take back their separation in the standings after a split with UMD last weekend in which they Badgers struggled to play together at times but still put plenty of shots on Kim Martin. While Bucky will need to find a way into the UND end this weekend they will also have to attempt to shutdown the Lamoureux fueled offensive that UND has used to generate much of its scoring to this point. Both teams have struggled with players in the box thus far so keeping a cool head should also be at the top of both coaches list in their keys to the series victory.
Non-Conference Series'
Robert Morris @ Minnesota State
FRI, 7:07 PM ~ SAT, 7:07 PM
RMU Preview
MSU Preview
Endless similarities will play out when the 6-9-1 Mavs host the 2-12-1 Colonials. Both teams are still looking to be identified among their higher ranked league rivals. Thus far the rebuilding Mavs are 1-2-1 in non-conference games that saw a home win and tie and a pair of road losses at Wayne State. The Colonials who have played nine games against teams ranked this season have been the victims more times than not when they are over matched offensively. As they open their first of 8 road games, RMU will need to keep pressure in the MSU end if the hope to stay on the right side of the scoreboard. The Mavs on the other hand need to find a way to put consistent pressure on Daneca Butterfield and hope that confusion amongst the colonial defense results in a positive home series.
