CHA Teams sweep away the competition

All five College Hockey America teams recorded road sweeps this weekend. Niagara, Syracuse, Mercyhurst, and Wayne State all swept ECAHCL foes; while Robert Morris swept Maine of Hockey East.

The #1 Ranked Mercyhurst Lakers completed their third series sweep of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cornell 4-1. Jesse Scanzano and Bailey Bram each recorded a goal and two assists for 'hurst, while junior Ashley Cockell scored once and added a single assist in the victory. Laker goaile Hillary Pattenden moved to 6-0 on the season with 21 saves while giving up a single goal in the third period.

Mercyhurst returns home this week to host four time NCAA Champion Minnesota Duluth in a series starting Friday at 7pm.

Elsewhere in the state of New York the Syracuse Orange made the short trip over to Troy and came home with two wins while Wayne State needed overtime to put away Colgate. The Orange scored three unanswered goals following a five minute major to start of the third period capping a 4-3 win over RPI. The Victory extends Syracuse’s win streak to three games. The Warriors of Wayne State made the trek east to Hamilton and left town with a two victories. After a come from behind victory on Friday the Warriors scored 13 seconds into overtime to drop the Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The win for Wayne State Saturday gave the Warriors their first sweep of the season.

Niagara coming off a rough weekend in Durham last weekend rebounded in a big way at Quinnipiac. The Purple Eagles took an overtime win Friday when Leah Whittaker placed a puck from the left faceoff circle in for her first goal of the season. On Saturday following a scoreless first period Niagara lit the lamp twice in the second before giving up the shutout early in the third. Niagara will have a week off before opening CHA play vs. Syracuse on Nov. 6.
