On Wednesday, Hockey East PR planner Pete Souris discharged a media advisory offering the following details:
"The Boston Red Sox, Fenway Sports Group and the Hockey East Association will hold a joint press conference at Fenway Park on Thursday, August 20 at 11 a.m.
"School administrators, head coaches, and select student-athletes from Boston College, Boston University, the University of New Hampshire and Northeastern University will be also be participating in the press conference."
The genders of each aforementioned program were left unspecified and most potential parties concerned have retained a tight lip thus far. Nevertheless, the Boston Herald's John Connolly proceeded to conclude that, on Friday, January 8 of next year -one week after the Bruins and Flyers conduct the NHL's Winter Classic- UNH and Northeastern will pit their women's programs on the Fenway pond at 5:00, after which the BC-BU men's rivalry will take to the platform.
Indeed, both the Wildcats and Huskies schedules point to a Jan. 8 get-together in Boston with a 5:00 face-off. And, conversely, the New Hampshire men are already preoccupied with hosting UMass-Lowell that evening while NU is supposed to have the night off.
As was the case last month's Bruins-Flyers revelation, though, the presumptively poorly-kept secret shall not be confirmed until next week. And there are still a few items left in the speculators' puck bag: most prominently, the fact that BC and BU remain the only two WHEA teams yet to disclose their 2009-2010 schedules. Therefore, it is still technically conceivable that they, too, will be getting in on this somehow.
Please stand by.
