I received an e-mail earlier today with some sad news that the Calgary Oval X-treme will cease operations immediately following the firing of their program director and in liu of tough budget times for the organization.
News outlets have reported on the breaking story and I will only add that it is another sad tear into the fabric of the life that is post collegiate (professional) women's hockey.
Oval's demise puts the enitre WWHL future in jeopardy.
I will be interested to see how a league with its teams in Edmonton, Strathmore, and Minneapolis would last. It hasnt been determined yet what will come of the mid season shuttering of the BC Breakers.
